Kentucky Green & Healthy Schools (KGHS) is a project-based and hands-on program that empowers students and faculty to improve the safety, health, and sustainability of their schools. The program is driven by student inquiry, and uses the entire school building and its grounds as a learning laboratory. KGHS is a joint program of KEEC and the Kentucky Department of Education.
The U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools program honors schools that are exemplary in the three pillars of
- Reducing environmental impact and cost
- Improving the health and wellness of students and staff, and
- Providing effective environmental and sustainability education, which incorporates STEM, civic skills and green career pathways.
